eCommerce News & Events On-Demand | Demandware's On-Demand Ecommerce platform is selected to re-launch Gardeners.com

- Demandware, Inc., a leader in on-demand ecommerce solutions, today announced that Gardener's Supply, an employee-owned company serving millions of gardeners nationwide, has selected Demandware eCommerce to re-launch its website, Gardeners.com.

Gardener's Supply chose Demandware eCommerce because it provided built-in, revenue-generating features proven to lift conversion rates. "Ecommerce is our best performing channel and we had simply outgrown our old ecommerce vendor," said Max Harris, manager of electronic marketing, Gardener's Supply. "Demandware's on-demand solution ensures this won't happen again because we receive continuously enhanced features that provides superior functionality and eliminates the need for migration and upgrades."

To begin the vendor selection process, Gardener's Supply created an internal task force to review 100 ecommerce sites and identified 20 new 'must have' revenue-driving features. Implementing these new features on its old platform would have been a prohibitively expensive and lengthy project. The company began an extensive search for an ecommerce partner to re-launch its site. While evaluating the top seven ecommerce vendors, Gardener's Supply found that traditional solutions - both packaged applications and those hosted with an application service provider (ASP) or outsourcer - lacked the most innovative features, required extensive customization, or were too expensive to operate.

"Retailers that are seeking on-demand ecommerce software solutions will need to distinguish hype from reality," said Amy Konary, program director for Software Pricing, Licensing, and Delivery at IDC. "Software that is truly delivered on-demand is distinguished by characteristics such as unique pricing, development, and customization models that set on-demand apart from hosted packaged software."

Demandware understands that retailers want the ability to have control over their own site. Delivering Demandware eCommerce in a true on-demand model, the company provides its clients with visual programming tools so they are no longer at the mercy of their ecommerce vendor. With Demandware eCommerce, retailers can control of all aspects of their site - from user experience to functionality.

"We chose Demandware's on-demand ecommerce solution because it provides the 'must have' features we identified, such as A/B testing, analytics, guided search, product configuration and the ability to manage multiple sites right out-of the-box," said Andrew Knight, Internet development manager at Gardeners.com. "We can now control and optimize any aspect of our site in-house using intuitive visual customization tools. Demandware provides us with a continuously evolving feature set, application upgrades, hosting, scalability and a team of experienced and dedicated engineers to handle issues that arise when running an ecommerce site - and all for just a small amount more than we were paying for hosting alone."

"Demandware is simply the best ecommerce solution for multi-channel retailers like Gardener's Supply," said Stephan Schambach, president and CEO of Demandware. "We provide retailers with what they need - sophisticated ecommerce capabilities that they are in control of combined with the advantage of true on-demand, such as frequent functionality updates, broad scalability and predictable pricing. We provide Gardener's Supply with the ability to personalize and optimize their site daily."
