eCommerce News & Events On-Demand | Demandware Caps a Successful First Year with Launch of Advanced ECommerce Website for Gardener's Supply Company

- Demandware, Inc. (www.demandware.com), provider of the Software as a Service (SaaS)-based ecommerce platform, today announced that it has initiated its second year of platform availability with the launch of an advanced ecommerce Website for Gardener's Supply Company (www.gardeners.com), the nation's top multi-channel marketer of gardening supplies. Since its product launch at Demo 2005, Demandware has demonstrated the appeal of its SaaS delivery model with 14 customers, providing them with access to the merchandising control, flexibility, functionality and interoperability of a full ecommerce application suite with the cost-effectiveness offered by a pricing model based on results.

"Demandware's platform meets or beats our needs for smart direct marketing functionality with features such as Internal Search, a robust perpetual shopping cart, agile A/B testing and a solid core of site analytics," said Max Harris, manager of electronic marketing for the Gardener's Supply Company parent company, America's Gardening Resource. "We're also very excited by their organic search 'friendliness' and the boost in performance we'll get from the scalable capacity they provide using their Software as a Service-based delivery model."

Harris cited the flexibility and control offered by the Demandware platform as his key criteria for selecting Demandware. Full control of the appearance of the site was essential to support the company's brand development, as was advanced functionality to achieve the best possible customer experience; flexibility to respond to customer feedback in a way that preserves the company's 'gardener to gardener' communications style; and the ability to scale capacity to accommodate peaks in activity.

"Most of all," Harris continued, "they have proven to be partners, not just vendors. They have been very open to our suggestions to enhance the platform and editing tools, and I'm confident they will constantly enhance the feature suite and efficiencies within the tool."

"The Demandware platform's control, flexibility and scalable capacity made it possible for us to easily support Gardener's Supply Company's sophisticated-and thus somewhat complex-online retail capabilities," said Demandware CEO Stephan Schambach. "In the first year since the launch of our ecommerce platform, we have received validation from 15 customers-among them the top retail Websites-as well as our investors, who recently renewed their vote of confidence with a $12 million Series B round of funding. We believe the launch of the Gardener's Supply Company ecommerce site is the first success of many in the year ahead, and we look forward to an even more successful year of partnering with our customers to help them meet their online revenue and profitability objectives."
