The Details

Waxwear is a fine cotton canvas soaked in a centuries old paraffin formula originally developed for sailcloth. The wax impregnated canvas provides greater strength and abrasion resistance. Waxwear combines the durability of nylon and the ease of cotton. When exposed to heat, the waxed surface refinishes itself, and marks of use fade. Waxed cotton originated in the 15th century, when Scottish sailors applied fish oil to sail cloths to boost their durability and water-resistance. The sailors also wore the excess material as capes, the predecessors of today’s fisherman’s slicker.

Our waxed cloth combines the durability of cotton with water-resistant wax paraffin. The result is a flexible fabric that resembles leather. It’s strong, abrasion resistant, and boasts a distinguished, worn-in patina that improves with age, just like a baseball glove.
Take Care

We recommend reapplying wax paraffin to waxed cotton periodically for enhanced performance and appearance. If your bag gets scratched, use a hairdryer to heat the top layer, spreading the pliable finish for renewed polish.
